El Pueblo de Los Angeles
El Pueblo de Los Angeles is a group
of historic buildings in the heart of downtown Los Angeles
that were restored and turned
into a colorful Mexican marketplace in 1930.
In 1953 the area was turned into a State of California
historic park, and in 1989, management of the park was turned
over to the City of Los Angeles. The city plans to
restore more of the historic buildings in the future.

The main street and marketplace in El Pueblo de Los Angeles
is
Olvera Street, which begins at the large tree
in the center of the photo. The building just beyond
that tree is a church and beyond that is the
Biscailuz Building, which houses
the Institituto Cultural Mexicano.
