Gay Pride Month in Los Angeles
June is Gay Pride Month in Los Angeles and all month long there
are special events for the Los Angeles Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual,
and Transgendered (GLBT) community. The month of June was declared
to be Gay Pride Month in the United States by U.S. President Clinton
in 2000. U.S. President Barack Obama declared June to be LGBT Pride
Month in the United States on June 1, 2009.
West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval
As many as 400,000 people flock to the streets of Hollywood for
the annual West Hollywood Halloween Street Party, making it one
of the largest street festivals ins the United States. The
event celebrates the diversity and creativity of West Hollywood.
The event takes place on a one mile long stretch of Santa Monica
Boulevard, from Doheny to La Cienega. It features costumed
revelers in the streets and live music on three stages and smaller
music pods throughout the venue. Takes place every year on
Halloween night, October 31.
Outfest
Outfest is a Los Angeles festival highlighting gay and lesbian films
and the makers of those films. The event was known as the Gay and Lesbian Media Festival and Conference
when it was founded in 1982. It's name was changed to "Outfest: The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film
Festival" in 1994. The awards given out at OutFest are called "Outies" and they are
awarded in several different categories. The Outfest organizers also produce an
event called "Fusion: Los Angeles LGBT People of Color Film Festival" and several
other associated events.
GLAAD Media Awards
Annual event recognizing and honoring the media for
fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the
lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community.
Award ceremonies held in the spring or early summer in
three cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New
York City. The 21st Annual Los Angeles GLAAD Media Awards
Ceremony took place in April of 2010 at the Hyatt Regency
Century Plaza Hotel in the Century City district of Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Gay Rodeo
Annual rodeo organized by the Greater Los Angeles Chapter
of the Golden State Gay Rodeo Association, an organization
founded to promote the western lifestyle and produce
gay rodeo events. Competitions included in the LA Gay Rodeo
include bull riding, bareback bronco riding, steer riding, chute dogging,
roping, barrel racing, pole and flag racing, steer decorating,
a wild drag race and goat dressing.
Sunset Junction Street Fair
Dyke March Los Angeles
Annual event established in 191 to increase the visibility of
lesbian women in Los Angeles. In 2003 the event was moved
from West Hollywood to the Silverlake District of Los Angeles
to help give Los Angeles gay women an identity separate from the West
Hollywood gay men's community.
Trans-Unity Pride Celebration
This event has now partnered with the
Transgiving Film Festival to make an
even better Trans-Unity Pride event.
Baby Dragon 180 Ride
This annual 2-day, 180 mile roundtrip bicycle ride
from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara usually takes place
in September and it is a fundraiser for mental health
services, crystal meth recovery services, and programs
for LGBT youth at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center.
LA Leather Weekend
Week of activities for members of the leather community focused around the
"Mr Los Angeles Leather Contest".
